Sribhumi VDP Detains 7 Bangladeshi Nationals Days After Pushback
Seven Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended on Tuesday (December 23) by Village Defence Party (VDP) group after allegedly re-entering India just four days after being pushed back to Bangladesh through the Sutarkandi border on December 19, 2025.
According to police, the group allegedly crossed into India on Tuesday, December 23, through Montholi village in the Mahishashan area of Sribhumi district with the help of a broker. They were detained by on-duty Village Defence Party (VDP) members of Mantali village during routine patrolling.
Officials said the VDP became suspicious after noticing the individuals moving near the border. The group allegedly cut the border fencing around 3:30 pm and entered Indian territory. On noticing the suspicious behaviour, the VDP members promptly alerted the police and the BSF.
During questioning, the detainees allegedly confessed to the VDP members that they had crossed the border through Dewtoli village. Senior police officials and BSF commandants reached the spot early on Wednesday morning to detain the trespassers.
Among those detained was a woman. The individuals have been identified as Abbas Khan, Anwar Khan, Tahir Ali, Ayesha Khatun, Rustam Ali, Abdul Azid and Idris Ali. All were later handed over to the police for further legal action.
This is the second such trespassing incident in Sribhumi following recent violence in Bangladesh and the brutal lynching of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh on December 18, 2025.
