SPIC MACAY Classical Music Concert At Cachar College On February 16
The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY), in collaboration with Cachar College Heritage Club, is set to organise a special classical music concert at Cachar College on Monday (February 16). Preparations for the event are currently underway at the college campus.
The programme will feature internationally acclaimed sarod maestro and Padma Shri awardee Tejendra Narayan Majumdar. A disciple of Ustad Bahadur Khan and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Majumdar has performed at prestigious music festivals across India and abroad. His rendition of the Raag Charukeshi duet is widely appreciated among classical music enthusiasts.
He will be accompanied on tabla by renowned percussionist Sandeep Ghosh, who began his training at the age of six under Pandit Gobinda Bose and has over 25 years of experience performing alongside eminent artistes, including Pandit Anindo Chatterjee.
The initiative aims to introduce students to India’s rich and diverse cultural heritage and to rekindle interest in classical music among the younger generation. According to organisers, such programmes not only provide cultural exposure but also help instil values, responsibility, and a deeper connection with tradition.
The event is being organised under the leadership of Dr Apratim Nag, Principal of Cachar College. On behalf of the Heritage Club, Dr Parmita Das of the Commerce Department, along with other members, is overseeing the arrangements. Students have also been actively involved in organising the programme, and enthusiasm surrounding the event remains high.
