Two Houses Gutted in Midnight Fire at Katigorah’s Gobindapur, Cause Unclear

Two brothers lost their homes in a devastating fire that broke out after Saturday midnight (February 14) at Gobindapur in Katigorah, Cachar.

The houses, belonging to Abdul Ali and Abdul Monaf, were completely gutted in the blaze. The incident reportedly took place shortly after 2am. Family members woke up to find the house on fire and immediately rushed outside to save themselves.

According to the house owner, he noticed the flames after suddenly waking up around 2 AM. He quickly alerted other family members and ensured everyone came out safely. Hearing the cries for help, local residents gathered at the spot and tried to control the fire.

The Fire and Emergency Services and Katigorah Police reached the scene after being informed. However, by the time fire tenders arrived, both houses had already been reduced to ashes. All household belongings, including important documents, were destroyed in the fire. The cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained.

A local resident said they were asleep when the fire broke out. “We could not say exactly when it started. Probably around 2 in the morning. The fire engulfed everything within moments,” he said.

Another villager alleged that although the fire brigade and police arrived, little could be done as the fire had already spread rapidly. Authorities have not yet confirmed the reason behind the fire. Further investigation is underway.
