Ahead of PM Modi’s Visit, Pijush Hazarika Reviews Preparations in Silchar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Silchar on 14 March to attend a public meeting at Budhurail on the outskirts of the town and lay the foundation stones of several major projects. Water Resources and Public Relations Minister Pijush Hazarika visited the venue on Tuesday (3 March) to inspect the preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to lay the foundation for the Panchgram to Borapani High Speed Highway Express project, the long-awaited Silchar elevated corridor and a new agricultural college at Patharkandi. The event is expected to draw a large gathering.

Water Resources and Public Relations Minister Pijush Hazarika visited Silchar on Tuesday to review preparations at the venue. He inspected the site at Budhurail and assessed arrangements for the Prime Minister’s programme. He was accompanied by Minister Kaushik Rai, Cachar District Commissioner Ayush Garg and Senior Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das, along with other senior officials from different departments.

Speaking to the media, Hazarika said the Panchgram to Borapani Express Highway project has been sanctioned at an estimated cost of around Rs 25,000 crore and will begin soon. He added that the Prime Minister would also lay the foundation stone for the Silchar elevated corridor and the agricultural college at Patharkandi.

The elevated corridor in Silchar has been a long-standing demand of residents. The project faced delays in the past, leading to public concern. Its foundation laying is seen as a significant step towards addressing traffic congestion in the town.

The Prime Minister’s visit comes a few weeks after Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a large gathering at Natanpur during the Vibrant Village Programme II, where Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that PM Modi would visit the town on 14 March to launch these projects.

The visit is taking place ahead of the state Assembly elections. Home Minister, during his earlier visit had appealed for votes, stating that if the Bharatiya Janata Party returns to power, Assam would see major changes in the next five years, including efforts to make the state flood free.

Whether the announced projects progress beyond the foundation stage after the elections remains to be seen. Officials have said work will begin soon, but the pace and completion will be closely watched in the coming months.
