Five Bangladeshis Held After Entering India Allegedly Cutting Fence Along Katigorah Border

Five Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended after allegedly cutting through barbed wire fencing and entering India at Sadirkhal along the India-Bangladesh border in Katigorah, Cachar district. They were spotted by the locals of the area on Monday night (March 23).

According to reports, locals spotted five unidentified individuals moving suspiciously in the area late at night. Acting swiftly, the locals detained the suspects and allegedly assaulted them, triggering tension in the area. Upon being alerted, the Gumrah Police reached the spot and took custody of the five individuals when they failed to prove their identity.

Locals alleged that the group had entered Indian territory by cutting the border fencing, possibly with the intention of committing theft. The detained individuals are currently being interrogated by police.

Notably, infiltration attempts along the India-Bangladesh border in Katigorah have reportedly been frequent. In the past six months, over 200 Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas have been apprehended in the region and pushed back, according to sources.
