Assam Police Battalion Jawan Shot Near Manipur Border, Rushed To Silchar Medical College

In a major late-night development, an Assam Police Battalion jawan identified as Sarif Hussain Kazi has suffered bullet injuries in Lakhipur co-district’s Diglang Punji area, close to Assam’s inter-state border with Manipur.

According to preliminary information available with Barak Bulletin, Kazi was reportedly acting on a tip-off linked to a suspected drug cartel operating in the border belt when the incident took place. The exact circumstances leading to the firing are still unclear.

Sources in the police department said Kazi was found lying on the ground, bleeding profusely. Local residents reportedly noticed him and rushed him to Burrows Memorial Christian Hospital in Lakhipur. Doctors there confirmed that he had sustained a bullet injury and referred him to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.

Kazi is currently under treatment at the Trauma Centre of SMCH and is likely to be shifted to the Intensive Care Unit depending on his condition.

While the Jawan was found lying alone and Barak Bulletin secured access to video where the local public are rescuing him, Senior Superintendent of Cachar Police, Sanjib Kumar Saikia shared a contradicting statement. According to him there was a team in operation. The top cop said, “Co-district SP led the team in an anti-drug operation under Joypur Police Station. The whole team was there on the ground when the fire was opened. We have launched a counter operation, action will be taken as per law”
