Stay Safe, Stay Alert: Cachar Administration Releases Comprehensive Flood Advisory as Rain Intensifies

The Cachar District Administration has issued a comprehensive flood advisory after the water level of the Barak River continued to rise amid continuous rainfall and a forecast of heavy rain over the next two to three days.

According to the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more heavy rainfall across Assam, increasing the risk of flooding, flash floods and urban waterlogging in vulnerable parts of the district. Officials warned that if the rain continues, several low-lying areas may face a flood-like situation.

The administration said the situation is being monitored round the clock and all government departments, emergency response agencies and field officials have been placed on high alert. Necessary preparedness measures have already been taken to respond quickly to any emergency.

The DDMA has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel in flood-prone and waterlogged areas, especially during heavy rain. People have also been asked not to go near rivers, streams, drains, culverts or flooded locations where water currents may be dangerous.

Residents have been urged to switch off electricity if floodwater enters their homes and move electrical appliances, important documents and other valuables to higher places. Those living in flood-prone areas have also been asked to stay prepared for possible evacuation and cooperate with the administration and emergency teams if required.

The advisory further warned people not to walk, ride or drive through flooded roads, as hidden hazards beneath the water could pose a serious risk. Families have been encouraged to keep emergency kits ready with dry food, safe drinking water, medicines, flashlights, batteries and important documents.

The District Administration has appealed to the public to remain calm, avoid spreading rumours and rely only on official advisories issued by the DDMA and other government agencies. Residents have also been advised to keep their mobile phones fully charged and stay connected with local authorities for timely updates.

The administration said it will continue to monitor the situation closely and issue further advisories whenever necessary.
