400 Bags of Urea Seized near Assam-Mizoram Border

A truck loaded with 400 bags of urea was intercepted and seized by police at Lailapur in Cachar, near the Assam–Mizoram border, following a tip-off. Officers conducting a checkpoint search uncovered the consignment, which was being transported alongside various other goods. The seizure came after police became suspicious of the load and carried out detailed checking of the vehicle.

Officials said the urea involved is the same fertiliser that the state government supplies to farmers at subsidised rates. Police suspect the consignment was destined for Mizoram and that those involved had prepared a false consignment to conceal the fertiliser. The bags of urea had been placed among other sacks to disguise the cargo and to mislead authorities during transit, according to the police account.

The driver of the truck, identified as Saharul Islam Laskar of Jamalpur in Dholai, was arrested on charges related to illegal supply of fertiliser. Police stated that the transporters did not possess valid documentation for the load and had allegedly arranged the fake paperwork to facilitate the movement of the urea across the border. No other arrests were reported at the time of the seizure.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Rajat Kumar Pal said the police operation against the illegal fertiliser supply network is ongoing. Investigations are continuing to determine the full extent of the operation and to identify others involved in the distribution chain. The seized urea and the detained vehicle remain in police custody pending further legal action.
