
40,000 Suspected Yaba Tablets Seized from Scooter in Cachar, Two Brothers Held
Cachar Police seized 40,000 suspected Yaba tablets from a scooter in the Saptagram area of Dholai and detained two brothers in connection with the case, police said.
The operation was carried out as part of an anti-drug drive. Police intercepted a scooter bearing registration number AS-11 AG-2209 and conducted a search. During the search, officers allegedly recovered four packets containing a total of 40,000 suspected Yaba tablets from the scooter’s storage compartment.
The two persons travelling on the scooter were detained. They have been identified as Ziabur Rahman Barbhuiya and Taiyabur Rahman Barbhuiya, both residents of Saptagram in Dholai.
According to the police, the seized tablets have an estimated black market value of around Rs 8 crore.
Following the recovery, police also searched a godown allegedly linked to Taiyabur Rahman Barbhuiya. During the search, officers recovered suspected Burmese areca nuts stored in four sacks. The total weight of the seized areca nuts was approximately 155 kilograms.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the source and intended destination of the suspected narcotics and other seized materials.
