What’s the problem with 10 rupee coins? “There is none” says DC

Have you ever wondered why the 10 rupee coin issued by the Reserve Bank of India is considered illegal in Silchar? Silchar’ social media star Hrijoy Das Kanungo, popularly known as Shamol Da, did think about it. And he went on the roads to find out the reason. But unfortunately, failed to figure out any reason.

In the first episode of Barak Bulletin original, ‘Silchar with Hrijoy’ host Kanungo will be seen asking people about their experience of using 10 rupee coin in Silchar. Astonishingly, the 10 rupee coin which works in Hailakandi and Karimganj becomes illegal in Silchar for no reason.

Few said there is a perception that the 10 rupee coins in circulation are duplicate, while some vehemently put the blame on media and fake news. One journalist, whom Hrijoy interviewed said he went to a pan shop and gave 10 rupee coin in exchange of pan and the shop owner refused to accept it, “He showed me his drawer and to my disbelief, it was filled with 10 rupee coins. I asked him why are these stocked, he replied no one accepts them, not even the Central Bank,” the journalist was shot saying these words.

Host Kanungo and his team then went to the deputy commissioner’s office to find the details. S Lakshmanan cleared the burning confusion by saying, “There is no reason why the coin should not be circulating in Silchar. It is completely legal.”
