
An employee of Cachar Paper Mill — Partha Deb (54) passes away
Partha, who is survived by his wife Surita and son Rajdeep, lived at the mill’s staff quarters. Rajdeep studies in Kolkata and will reach Panchgram for the last rites, which will be performed at a cremation ground later this evening.
A mill employee told Barak Bulletin that Partha was suffering from hyper-tension and liver-related ailments for the past many months. On Saturday night, his health deteriorated immensely following which his wife along with few neighbours took him to a primary health centre at Kalinagar, where he was declared brought dead, the employee said.
The news of Partha’s demise has been doing the rounds on social media with several users posting and sharing it and expressing their sorrow over the incident. Sanjeev Roy, a convener of the HPC Paper Mills Revival Action Committee, a joint body of workers’ unions of the two paper mills in Assam, said the government has tortured and killed the employee. Many assurances have been given by the government about the mills’ revival and payment of pending salaries, but nothing has happened till date, he said.
Another employee of Cachar Paper Mill — Jahindra Kemprai had passed away on April 14. Altogether, 20 employees have died since the mill ceased functioning.
