Director General of Police, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta appeals to political leaders and members of political parties to follow the protocols.

Today, polled votes will be counted in Assam and other states where Assembly elections were held. Considering the current COVID situation, the Election Commission of India yas issued a set of guidelines. On the eve of the counting day, the head of Police in Assam has made it clear that any violation will incur legal action.

“The main aim of these instructions is to avoid any situation of infection. So these instructions have been repeatedly explained to officers from different categories of police to avoid any compromise. Today (May 1) rehearsal was organized in all the districts regarding police duty. So everyone is requested to follow the instructions properly,” stated the DGP.

Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta warned, “Any victory rally, mass festival, firecrackers, violating rules and gathering of several people at the same place will be considered illegal and legal action will be taken.”

He concluded, “Come, let’s all move forward by holding hands to prevent the killings of the cruel infection of Covid 19.”

In Cachar District 1100 counting officials will get involved to execute smooth counting of polled votes. The counting of votes will take place at NATRiP in Jhapirbond. The counting process will begin from 8 AM onwards.

The counting process will be begin with postal ballots. Consequent upon this, EVM counting of votes will start at 8.30 AM. There are seven constituencies in the district of Cachar. These are: Silchar (334 Polling Stations), Sonai (259 Polling Stations), Dholai (271 Polling Stations), Katigorah (271 Polling Stations), Lakhipur (235 Polling Stations), Borkhola (219 Polling Stations) and Udharbond (240 Polling Stations).

Counting of EVM votes in each of these constituencies will be done on 14 tables per round. These 14 tables will be spread across 2 rooms per constituency with 7 tables in each room.

Further, there will be one separate room for postal ballot counting in all the seven assembly constituencies of Cachar. Every room where postal ballots will be counted will have 4 tables.
