COVID: For the first time since May 1 no deaths reported in SMCH for two consecutive days in a row

In the month of April, which is also considered as the beginning of the second wave in Barak Valley, 16 individuals had died with COVID in Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). In May the number multiplied many times. In the first half of June, the number of deaths per day at Silchar Medical College and Hospital started declining. For the first time, since May 1, SMCH has seen no deaths in two consecutive days.

In his medical bulletin, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, vice-principal of SMCH informed that the hospital has not declared anyone dead in the COVID wards in the last 24 hours ending at 5 pm on June 28. Yesterday’s medical bulletin for 24 hours also mentioned that there was no death on the previous day.

Currently, there are 130 active cases in SMCH’s COVID wards, and out of them, 53 patients are in ICU. It is worth mentioning here that the COVID ICU has a capacity of 100 beds and another 40-bedded ICU is under construction at SMCH. At one stage, there were 99 patients in the ICU and around 180 on Oxygen support. In today’s bulletin, Dr. Gupta informed that 82 patients are on Oxygen support. 12 patients have been kept on ventilators.

In the last 24 hours, 17 patients have taken admission to the COVID ward and 19 got discharged.
