Accident in Cachar-Haflong highway; 25 labourers injured as Mini Truck skids off road

A tragic accident in the Borkhola area of Cachar has injured over 25 tea garden labourers. A Tata Magic mini truck was transporting labourers from Mainaghar and Lalbagh Tea Gardens to Chandighat Tea Estate and on its way, it lost its control and skid off the road.

The accident happened near Haticherra on the Cachar-Haflong Mahasadak. While the truck was heading towards its destination, it suddenly approached a heap of sand gravel out of nowhere in the middle of the road. The driver couldn’t maintain the balance of the speeding vehicle and it fell off, taking over two turns. The labourers were standing at the back of the carrier and hence due to the sudden loss of control, they fell off the vehicle and collided with the loose gravel and got injured badly.

Speaking about the incident, a labourer said, “How can someone just throw gravel on the middle of the road? While NHAI patrols on this route 24X7 how can this be possible? Already the road is in bad shape and above that some people just dump off sand and gravel for their private purposes? The road is not someone’s private property. We held the NHAI patrol team responsible for this. Sure there’s a nexus”.

The patients have been immediately rushed to the Borkhola Public Health Centre for treatment. “The condition of 5 to 6 patients have been declared critical and have been referred to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital for further treatment”, the labourer further added.
