Land for Greenfield Airport: DIG Southern Range, SP Cachar feature in Police’s flag march at Dolu
A flag march was organised by the security forces in Dolu Tea Garden’s Lalbag and Moynagarh, where the proposed Green Air Field is suppose to be made. A large sections of the workers of Dolu Tea garden is opposing the proposed move and they have held many protest demonstration in earlier months. Just a few days back, Cachar administration had to postpone the demarcation of the area of proposed green air field in Dolu Tea estate area.
On Monday afternoon, joint forces of CRPF and Assam Police held the flag march, this was attended by Deputy Inspector General (Southern Range) of Assam Police Kankanjyoti Saikia and Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur.
They carried out the flag march in estate’s Lalbagh and Moynagarh area for two-and-a-half hours untill evening.
DIG Kankanjyoti Barua speculated about “external forces” behind the discontent showed up by the local workers. “They are trying to create hindrances in the path of airfield project by brainwashing the workers,” Kankanjyoti Saikia told the reporters. DIG Southern Range also added that tea workers are being persuaded by misinformation propaganda by external agents. He urged that the workers should communicate directly to the administration and co-operate with the project and not to fall for rumours.
The flag march is being held to make sure so that no-one should create any obstacle regarding implementation of the green airfield project.
Earlier it was speculated that Maoists are trying to create hurdles in the project and in last few months Silchar police had detained few leftists leaders for allegedly being involved with Maoist activity.
