Cachar: Father burnt to death, son critical after alleged mishandling of explosives; “Matter under investigation,” Police
In a tragic turn of affairs, a man identified as Rema Hmar has lost his life. A resident of Hmarkhawlien, Cachar, Rema Hmar reported to the nearest hospital with complaints of severe burns. His son, 26-year-old, Johan Hmar also got burnt and the local hospital referred both of them to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).
Both of them were treated by doctors in SMCH and Rema Hmar was declared dead at around 5:00 am in the morning on Thursday. According to sources in SMCH, he had suffered 45-50% burnt including facial burn. His son’s condition is critical and he has been referred to the ICU. Doctors assessed that he has suffered 80-85% burn. According to the medical records, both of them have suffered “electric burn”
However, locals of Hmarkhawlien area have said that the injuries were incurred after they mishandled explosive items. Rumours suggest they were making an explosive and that is when the accident occurred. The local Police also said that they have heard such rumours and the investigation is on.
Senior Police Officers at the Headquarters have got the initial post mortem report which classifies the injuries as electric burn. They said there isn’t any conclusive evidence yet to suggest that the injuries were due to explosion.
