Trikal Chakraborty and Nabankur Das rescue 10.5-foot King Cobra from a house in Cachar
A resident of the Srikona area in Cachar called Wildlife enthusiast Trikal Chakraborty as they spotted a large snake inside their house. The locals, unaware of the identity of the reptile, wanted to save it and so, they called the Chakraborty, who is famous for rescuing venomous snakes.
By the time Chakraborty and his colleague for the day, Nabankur Das reached the spot, the snake had spent some time in the rooms of the resident. “I wasn’t expecting too large a snake, however, when I first saw it, I realised, it was a giant King Cobra. Before we started the rescue process, we requested the residents to relocate. In fact, all the domesticated animals in the house were also shifted to the neighbours. After following all the routine protocols, we started the rescue process,” informs Trikal Chakraborty while speaking with Barak Bulletin.
He informed it was 10.5 feet long weighing around 7 kg. “Such a huge snake normally provokes human beings actually to go for the kill just out of safety concerns. Grateful to the locals there that they cooperated with us to conserve wildlife,” added Chakraborty.
The snake ran around for over an hour from one room to another. “It was hard to bring the snake under control. But we have managed to do that. We followed the ethical rescue process and guided the snake into our bag. After that, we escorted the snake to a nearby forest area and released it into its natural habitat,” informs Chakraborty.
King cobra (Ophiophagus hannah) also known as Raj Palok in Bangla is nowadays commonly visible in residential areas. Chakraborty opines it is the mating season for the snakes and so, it is possible that a King Cobra might divert into human settlements. He says, he has addressed the gathering and tried to generate awareness about the particular reptile caught.
