Cachar Police and BSF Intercept 260,000 Yaba Tablets Worth 70 Crores in Silchar Operation

In a significant operation against the illegal transportation of narcotics, Cachar Police, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), executed a meticulously planned action in the Katakhal area of Silchar.

Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Numal Mahatta, revealed that the operation yielded a remarkable seizure. A Tata Xenon vehicle with registration number MZ05 9625 was intercepted, and a staggering twenty-six packets, containing a total of 260,000 Yaba tablets, were discovered concealed within specially constructed secret compartments.

Yaba, a potent and highly addictive synthetic drug, is a combination of methamphetamine and caffeine. Also known as the “madness drug,” it is notorious for its stimulant and psychoactive effects, resulting in increased alertness and euphoria. According to the Cachar SP, illicit market value of this substantial Yaba seizure is estimated to be around 70 crores, underscoring the gravity of the operation.

The consignment of Yaba tablets had been surreptitiously transported from the Champai district of Mizoram, reflecting the regional scope of the illegal narcotics trade. The Cachar Police, in conjunction with the BSF, have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter. In the aftermath of the operation, two individuals suspected to be involved in the transportation of these illegal substances managed to flee the scene. A search operation is currently underway to apprehend the absconding culprits.

The seizure of such a massive quantity of Yaba tablets serves as a stark reminder of the ever-present challenges faced by authorities in their ongoing efforts to curb the flow of narcotics and safeguard society. The investigation into the origins and the ultimate destination of this substantial drug consignment is expected to shed light on a network of drug trafficking, leading to further actions against the perpetrators.
