Cachar Admin Cancels Pre-Poll Leave, Restricts Employee Movement Ahead of Silchar Civic Election

The Cachar district administration has tightened movement and leave rules for government and other institutional employees ahead of the Silchar Municipal Corporation Election 2026, directing personnel not to leave the district without prior approval.

The election is scheduled to be held on October 3, while counting of votes is set to begin from October 6.

According to an order issued by District Election Officer and District Commissioner, Cachar, Rahul Kumar Gupta, IAS, employees of Central and State Government departments, PSUs, State PSUs, banks, educational institutions and other government-related establishments have been asked to remain available for election-related duties.

Under the order, such employees cannot leave Cachar district without prior permission from the District Election Officer or the ADC in-charge of the Election Personnel Cell.

The administration has also cancelled all types of leave that had been sanctioned by competent authorities of departments in the district before the announcement of the Silchar Municipal Corporation Election 2026. Leave granted on medical grounds has been exempted from the order.

The directions have come into effect immediately and will remain in force until the completion of the election process.

The move is aimed at ensuring the availability of personnel and smooth administrative arrangements throughout the civic election and counting process.

The order was communicated through a press release issued by the Regional Office of Information and Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar.
