Parimal Suklabaidya in Silchar, Kripanath Mallah in Karimganj; BJP announces first list as Modi seeks third term as PM

In anticipation of the upcoming General Elections to the Lok Sabha, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its initial roster of contenders slated to vie for various constituencies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking a historic third consecutive term, underscores the significance of this announcement, with the BJP disclosing candidates for 11 out of the 14 seats in Assam.

The revelation was made by Vinod Tawde, a prominent figure within the BJP’s ranks serving as the party’s national general secretary, adding a substantial layer of gravitas to the proceedings.

A notable development emerging from this announcement is the selection of candidates for the Barak Valley region, particularly in the Silchar Lok Sabha Constituency. Parimal Suklabaidya, the sole minister from Barak Valley within the Assam Government, has been granted the party’s ticket to contest from Silchar, marking a pivotal moment for the local populace. Interestingly, Dr. Rajdeep Roy, the incumbent MP from Silchar, finds himself absent from the list of 11 candidates designated for Assam.

Further insights into BJP’s strategy unfold with Tawde’s declaration regarding Karimganj, where incumbent MP Kripanath Mallah is set to pursue a second term. However, a startling discrepancy surfaces as Karimganj is referred to as an SC (Scheduled Caste) constituency, despite recent delimitation alterations designating it as an open category. Meanwhile, Silchar has transitioned into an SC constituency. The decision raises speculation whether this discrepancy is an oversight or indicative of a deliberate strategy by the BJP.

In a move that captures attention statewide, the BJP has revealed that former Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, will be throwing his hat into the electoral ring from Dibrugarh, adding another layer of intrigue to the unfolding political narrative.
