Saidpur Under Spotlight: 40-Year-Old Man Found Dead Near Bypass

The body of a 40-year-old man was recovered from a drain near Fakirtilla along the Saidpur bypass in Saidpur Second Part under Silchar Sadar Police Station on Thursday morning, raising concern in the area.

The deceased has been identified as Nilu Roy, a resident of the area. According to his family, Roy left home at around 6 pm on Wednesday (August 26) to attend a kirtan at a house in the village but did not return.

His family searched for him through the night. Around midnight, they called his mobile phone and found that it was ringing, but there was no response.

According to Roy’s brother, the family resumed the search on Thursday morning (August 27) and visited relatives’ houses. While they were on their way to the police station to file a missing complaint, they reportedly found Roy’s clothes lying beside the road. They later returned to the area and, with local residents also searching for him, found his body in the water.

The family said Roy appeared to have suffered injuries from a sharp weapon. The exact circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been established.

Police reached the spot after being informed and began a preliminary investigation. The circumstances leading to Roy’s death and whether he was murdered will be determined through the investigation and post-mortem examination.

Roy’s family described him as a simple and economically disadvantaged man. His brother said the family wants the case to be taken up by a fast-track court and urged the authorities to ensure that justice is delivered at the earliest. The family also demanded that anyone found guilty of the killing face punishment according to law.

The incident has also raised concern among local residents as it comes within around 15 days of another body being recovered in Saidpur Second Part. Suman Roy, representative of the Sonabarighat Gaon Panchayat president, said residents were concerned about what he described as an increase in anti-social activities in the area following the construction of the Bharatmala road.

Roy called for a permanent police patrol post in the Raipara area to improve security and prevent anti-social activities. Police investigation into the latest death is underway.
