Mentally Unstable Woman Gang-Raped in Karimganj’s Kayasthagram: Five Arrested

In a shocking incident, a mentally unstable woman was gang-raped in the Kayasthagram area of Karimganj. The crime occurred when she was abducted and forced into an auto-rickshaw by a group of ill-minded youths at night. Karimganj’s Superintendent of Police, Partha Protim Das, took swift and stringent action upon learning of the heinous crime. The police investigation led to the immediate arrest of five suspects involved in the gang rape.

According to reports, the mentally unstable woman had been wandering around the Kayasthagram area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Nilambazar police station. The incident occurred on June 30, when five youths took advantage of her vulnerable state, forcibly taking her into an auto-rickshaw at night and subsequently gang-raping her.

Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das, upon receiving information about the incident, ordered an immediate and thorough investigation. He told Barak Bulletin, “The unfortunate incident occurred on the night of June 30 between 12:30 to 2 AM. We have recovered the CCTV footage from some shops in the bazaar to corroborate the evidence, and based on that, all five suspects have been arrested.”

“Last night we received information from our sources about the gruesome incident. Two days ago, a mentally ill homeless woman who lives near the streets of Kayasthagram was gang-raped by 3-4 individuals after being dragged to the railway station,” further added SP Partha Protim Das.

Initially, two accused were apprehended by the police, who confessed to the crime. This intensified the search operation to nab all the criminals. The diligent efforts of the police resulted in the prompt arrest of the five accused individuals: Pranesh Nath, a security guard of the Kayasthagram bazaar, along with Fokor Uddin, Shamim Khan, Riyaz Uddin, and Abdul Mustak (Mostai). A case has been registered against the culprits.

The incident has sparked intense outrage and condemnation throughout the area, with residents demanding justice for the victim and stringent punishment for the perpetrators.

The Karimganj police have assured that all necessary support will be provided to the victim and they will pursue the case with utmost seriousness and ensure that justice is served.
