Barak Valley: The Future Gateway to Central Asia, Says Amit Malviya
The BJP’s national IT cell convener, Amit Malviya, held a press conference in Silchar, claiming significant development in Assam and the Northeast under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Amit Malviya visited Silchar on 29 July and held a press conference where he claimed that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the Northeast, including Assam, has seen significant development after years of neglect. He was accompanied by other dignitaries, including former Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy and Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty.
Malviya asserted that the region, neglected for 70 years, is now witnessing progress. He highlighted that development initiatives are in full swing, particularly in Assam, thanks to the efforts of the Chief Minister. According to Malviya, the central government is launching various schemes to make educated youth self-reliant. He also mentioned several schemes targeting agriculture and farmers to boost their welfare.
Malviya praised the Assam Chief Minister for bringing Barak Valley to the forefront of development. He stated that both the state and central governments have planned numerous projects, starting from the East-West Corridor to improve connectivity in Barak.
Emphasising the importance of connectivity, Malviya said the government’s efforts to enhance roadways and airways in the Northeast would significantly benefit Barak Valley, potentially making it a gateway to Central and South-East Asia.
When questioned about the absence of specific mentions for Assam in the recent budget session, Malviya responded that not all announcements could be made through the budget. He assured that the government remains committed to the region. Regarding Assam’s flood issues, Malviya promised that the central government would provide all necessary support to resolve the problem.
He highlighted that Assam has received more funds in the last 10 years compared to the previous regime. He cited figures, stating that the Modi government allocated Rs 2,29,519 crore, a significant increase from the Rs 64,412 crore given by the previous government.
