Silchar: Night Drive Turns Tragic as Bolero Falls Into Barak River

A 70-year-old man died after a Bolero vehicle fell into the Barak River while being reversed near the riverbank at Berenga in Silchar on Saturday (September 12) night.

The deceased has been identified as Siru Miya Choudhary, a local resident. He was travelling in the vehicle with the driver, Sajjad Hussain, when the incident occurred at around 9:30 pm.

According to local residents, the Bolero was being reversed near the riverbank when the driver lost control and the vehicle fell into the river. People from the nearby area rushed to the spot after hearing the sound of the vehicle falling into the water.

Local residents entered the river and managed to rescue both Chajjad Hussain and Siru Miya Choudhary. While Hussain was rescued alive, Choudhary was in a critical condition and was taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. He was later declared dead by doctors.

A local resident who spoke about the incident said Choudhary was a good man who maintained cordial relations with people in the area. He also clarified that Choudhary was not driving the vehicle and that Hussain was behind the wheel.

The Bolero remained in the riverbed overnight and was recovered on Sunday. The incident has left the local community in mourning.
