India Increases Security Along Bangladesh-Karimganj Border Amid Crisis, All Units on High Alert: KXJ DC
In response to the ongoing crisis and violence in Bangladesh, India has heightened its security measures along the 100-kilometer border with Karimganj district. The Border Security Forces (BSF), local police, and Village Defence Parties (VDPs) have been placed on high alert.
District Commissioner of Karimganj, Mridul Yadav, today confirmed these developments in a press briefing. He explained, “Karimganj shares a 100-kilometer-long border with Bangladesh, encompassing both land and water routes. Section 144 is enforced along the border continuously. Our authorities and customs have been alerted. We are prepared to assist any Indians or students from Bangladesh who wish to enter India with proper documentation, as we have done previously. A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) has been assigned for 24-hour assistance. For residents of Karimganj currently in India, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka is available for support, with contact numbers provided by both the Commission and the Ministry of External Affairs.”
Yadav further assured that all relevant authorities, including the BSF, Assam Police, and VDPs, have been mobilized, with a Magistrate appointed to assist in the situation. He also stated that ongoing communication is maintained with counterpart authorities and the High Commissioner.
The situation in Assam’s bordering areas has become tense due to the ongoing vandalism and violence. There is growing concern as people are anxious about a potential influx of migrants as a result of the crisis.
