Police in Hailakandi arrests Illegal Bangladeshi: 12 Years of Illegal Stay Comes to a Legal Halt
In a major breakthrough, the police in Hailakandi have arrested a Bangladeshi national from Dhanipur village under Lala police station. The individual, identified as Md. Shyam Uddin, had been living in India for the past 12 years. He was found residing in the house of one Taj Uddin Choudhury, who had provided him shelter by claiming the man as his son.
According to the police, Taj Uddin had been harbouring the Bangladeshi man for over a decade. Md. Shyam Uddin was reportedly living with the family under a false identity, which had allowed him to evade the authorities for so long. The arrest was made during a late-night raid by Lala police in the Dhanipur village.
Upon asking Md. Shyam Uddin has revealed that he originally hails from Sylhet, Bangladesh. He claims to have crossed into India 12 years ago and has been living here ever since. When asked about his reasons for staying in India for such a long period, the Bangladeshi national indicated a desire to eventually leave for a foreign country, although he did not specify his motives behind the move.
During his statement, he also mentioned that he crossed the India-Bangladesh border with the help of certain individuals based in Guwahati. This has raised concerns about possible corruption within local authorities, as it suggests that there may be a network involved in helping illegal immigrants enter the country.
Along with Md. Shyam Uddin, Taj Uddin Choudhury has also been arrested for providing shelter to an illegal immigrant. The police are currently questioning both individuals to gather more details about how Md. Shyam Uddin managed to live in India undetected for such a long period.
The arrests have sparked concerns about border security and illegal immigration in the region. Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to uncover any possible links to human trafficking or corruption.
