Missing Man Recovered Following Kidnapping Incident Near Manipur Border, Says SP Mahatta

In a significant development today, police have successfully recovered Md Saiyur Uddin, the individual who was reported missing after being kidnapped by unknown assailants on 21 October 2024. Uddin was found in Bakkal, under the jurisdiction of Jirighat Police Station, and has since been brought to the station for medical examination. His family has been notified of his safe recovery.

Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta confirmed the recovery, stating, “The victim was found during a coordinated search operation involving both Cachar and Jiribam police. While we are relieved that he is safe, the suspects managed to escape, taking advantage of the difficult terrain.”

The incident unfolded when Uddin, a resident of Pachim Kashimpur Balijuri in Jiribam, Manipur, was reportedly abducted while working in a remote area near A Kapakhal. The police were alerted around 4:00 PM on the day of the kidnapping, leading to an immediate response that included deploying teams via boat due to the region’s lack of road connectivity.

In the wake of the abduction, both local and paramilitary forces intensified search operations across the Assam-Manipur border. Superintendent Mahatta remarked that operational measures were swiftly implemented in collaboration with the Jiribam police to secure Uddin’s safe return.

While the authorities have yet to apprehend the kidnappers, a case has been registered at Jirighat Police Station, and investigations are ongoing. Police believe the suspects are from Jiribam, Manipur, and efforts are underway to locate and arrest them.
