Another Diwali Fire Scare: Flames Engulf Home in Silchar’s Second Link Road, Neighbours Proactiveness Prevents Spread

Amid the Diwali celebrations, a second fire incident has struck Silchar, following a recent destructive fire in Janiganj. The latest incident occurred in Lane 9 of Second Link Road, at the residence of Pratima Nath. Locals spotted the flames suddenly rising from the house and sprang into action, attempting to control the fire before it spread.

Upon receiving the alert, the fire department dispatched three engines to the scene. After nearly an hour of coordinated efforts by the residents and firefighters, the blaze was finally brought under control. Fortunately, no one was present in the house at the time, and no injuries were reported.

Although the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, initial suspicions suggest that it may have been triggered by Diwali firecrackers. Fire officials are continuing their investigation to confirm the source of the blaze.

One of the neighbours described the chaotic moments, saying, “The owner of the home is not at home today. I saw the fire from the ground floor and noticed smoke and flames inside. I ran to the spot and called the neighbours. One of our neighbours had a borewell with sufficient water, so we started pumping it out to douse the fire. But the flames had already spread to other rooms and the backside. It was beyond our control”

“Another neighbour used their overhead tank from their first floor to help. In the meantime, the fire brigade came, broke open the locks, and assessed the situation. The firefighters eventually controlled the situation and put out the fire”, he further added.

After nearly an hour of efforts by residents and the fire brigade, the fire was finally extinguished. Fortunately, no one was in the house at the time, and no injuries were reported. Although the exact cause is still under investigation, some suspect it might have been triggered by Diwali firecrackers.
