Two Friends Drown at Madhura Dayadisha Waterfall in Udharbond — Bodies Retrieved by Locals
A weekend outing turned into a tragedy as two youths from Silchar drowned while bathing at the Madhura Dayadisha waterfall in Udharbond, Cachar. The deceased have been identified as Rajdeep Das (23) and Biswajit Dutta (19), both residents of Shree Krishna Lane in Kanakpur.
According to reports, the duo had gone to the popular waterfall on Sunday (June 29) afternoon along with three other friends. While they were bathing, a strong current swept away Rajdeep and Biswajit.
While their other friends searched for them, panicking, they could find the duo and asked a few locals to help.
Hmar locals of the Dayadisha area displayed immense courage and led the rescue efforts. Rajdeep was the first to be found. He was immediately taken to Udharbond Primary Health Centre and later referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), where doctors declared him brought dead.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) also rushed to the spot and launched a search operation, but had to suspend it after sunset due to darkness. Undeterred, the local villagers continued the search into the night and managed to locate Biswajit’s body late on Sunday. Unfortunately, he too had succumbed to drowning.
The bodies have been sent to SMCH for post-mortem examination.
This is not the first such incident at the Madhura Dayadisha waterfall, which is known for its strong and unpredictable currents. Several drowning cases have been reported in the past, raising serious safety concerns.
Visitors should exercise extreme caution around waterfalls and avoid venturing into unfamiliar or potentially hazardous waters.
