Internal Sabotage Alleged In Cachar BJP: Mithun Nath Claims Plot To Defeat Party In Silchar, Borkhola

Alleging internal sabotage within the BJP ahead of the Assam Assembly Elections 2026, Mithun Nath on Tuesday (March 31) claimed that a section of party leaders is actively working to ensure the defeat of BJP candidates of Silchar and Borkhola.

Addressing a press conference at a marriage hall in Rongpur, Silchar, Nath—who had earlier filed his nomination as an independent candidate from Udharbond before withdrawing it, rejected allegations of financial transactions linked to his withdrawal. He said the claims, widely circulated on social media, are “baseless” and part of a “deliberate conspiracy” to tarnish his image.

“Unable to suppress me politically, they have floated stories of monetary dealings using my nomination withdrawal as a tool,” Nath said, alleging that a faction within the BJP is behind the campaign. While he initially avoided naming the party, he later directly stated that “an internal game of sabotage is underway within Cachar BJP.”

He further alleged that the same faction is attempting to manipulate outcomes in Silchar and Borkhola by working against official party candidates. Nath also linked the alleged infighting to the low turnout at a recent rally addressed by former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Silchar, questioning why Sonowal’s photograph is not displayed at the Cachar BJP office.

On his decision to withdraw from the Udharbond contest, Nath maintained that he acted under the direction of the Sangh, which he described as his “parent organisation.” “Whether I wanted it or not, I could not disobey the Sangh’s instruction. That put me in a moral dilemma,” he said, adding that BJP leaders allegedly approached Sangh functionaries knowing his emotional attachment to the organisation.

Calling the withdrawal a decision akin to “knowingly drinking poison,” Nath apologised to the people of Udharbond for disappointing their expectations. He also announced his decision to step away from active politics as a form of “self-punishment,” but asserted that he will continue to speak out against what he termed as unethical practices by certain BJP leaders.

Bajrang Dal officials present at the press meet echoed Nath’s stance. Pankaj Das said attempts to malign Nath would not weaken their resolve, while Chiranjeet Sinha challenged those making allegations of financial transactions to prove them, warning against spreading unverified claims.

Others present at the press conference included Raj Ghosh, Ratan Roy and Apu Chandra Dey.
