National shame: Cachar boy arrested for murdering lady in Tamil Nadu and packing body parts in suitcase

A 22-year-old man from Cachar district has been arrested in connection with the sensational murder of a woman in Tamil Nadu whose dismembered body parts were found inside a trolley bag aboard the Chennai-New Delhi Tamil Nadu Express in Agra earlier this month.

The accused has been identified as Rahul alias Manik Uddin Laskar, a resident of Dakshin Krishnapur in the Sonabarighat area of Cachar district.

Laskar was arrested from Kashimpur in Jiribam district of Manipur, close to the Assam-Manipur border, on Saturday by Guduvanchery Police with assistance from the Cachar police, according to information available with Barak Bulletin.

Police sources said Laskar is suspected of involvement in the murder of 38-year-old Hayathun Isha, who had been living in Guduvanchery near Chennai and working at Vijay Garments in the Tambaram area.

According to sources, Isha had been staying as a tenant for around a month at a house on Masoodi Street in Nandivaram, Guduvanchery. Her husband, Jahhur Khan, was running a grocery shop in Odisha, while their son, Yusaf Khan, worked as an air-conditioning mechanic.

Police sources told Barak Bulletin that Laskar and another person identified as Bhagabati Majhi, who also worked at the garments company, had been staying with Isha’s son in a rented accommodation in Guduvanchery.

Investigators suspect that Isha and Laskar were in a relationship. Police suspect Laskar and Majhi of involvement in Isha’s killing and the subsequent dismemberment of her body. These allegations remain under investigation.

Parts of the victim’s body were packed inside a trolley bag and placed aboard the Tamil Nadu Express travelling from Chennai towards New Delhi.

The case first surfaced in early August when decomposed human remains were discovered inside a red trolley bag in a general compartment of the Tamil Nadu Express after the train reached Agra. The discovery prompted an investigation spanning Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Agra police registered Case No. 95/2026 under Sections 103(1) and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the recovery.

The investigation subsequently led police to Guduvanchery, where additional body parts believed to belong to the victim were recovered from a rented house. The victim’s head has reportedly not yet been recovered.

Separately, Isha’s son had lodged a missing-person complaint with Guduvanchery Police after she disappeared. T8 Guduvanchery Police Station registered Case No. 338/2026 as a woman-missing case, according to police information accessed by Barak Bulletin.

Investigators subsequently identified Laskar and Majhi as suspects in the case.

The arrest of Laskar marks a significant development in the investigation. Barak Bulletin learned that the Cachar resident was apprehended at Kashimpur in Jiribam with the assistance of Cachar police and local police. Police are expected to take him to Tambaram after completing the necessary transit procedures.

The investigation remains underway, including efforts to establish the sequence of events leading to Isha’s death, the motive behind the alleged murder and the role of each suspect.
