Repoll Ordered In Karimganj North After EVM Tampering Allegations At Booth
The Election Commission of India has ordered a fresh poll at a polling station in Karimganj North constituency in Sribhumi district after serious allegations of EVM tampering and unlawful interference surfaced during voting on Thursday (April 9).
As per official documents reviewed, the Returning Officer recommended a re-poll at Polling Station No. 239 (Babyland High English School) under 123-Karimganj North after scrutiny of Form 17A and related records.
The report states that miscreants allegedly entered the polling station, forcibly took control of the EVMs, and cast multiple illegal votes inside the premises. It, however, clarified that the machines were not taken outside the polling station.
Following this, both the Returning Officer and the General Observer endorsed the recommendation for a re-poll, citing the integrity of the electoral process being compromised.
Acting on these findings, the Commission declared the April 9 poll at the booth void and scheduled a fresh poll on April 11, 2026, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Authorities have been directed to ensure strict compliance with election protocols, while political parties and candidates are being formally informed. Enhanced vigilance is expected during the re-poll to prevent any recurrence of such incidents.
The development has raised concerns over polling security in the constituency, with officials now under pressure to ensure a free and fair voting process.
