Cachar: Mid-day Meal Heist During Bihu Holiday Rocks Narsingpur School

A burglary at a primary school in the Narsingpur Education Development Block of Cachar district has triggered concern among locals and faculty after unidentified miscreants broke into the institution late on Wednesday night (April 15). The miscreants stole sacks of rice intended for the mid-day meal of the schoolchildren.

The incident took place at 1292- Dakshin Channighat Primary School, where thieves allegedly entered the premises by breaking a window. Taking advantage of the Bihu holidays, the culprits managed to access the building without being noticed.

The matter came to light on Thursday (April 16) morning when locals noticed the school door open under suspicious circumstances. As the news spread, a crowd gathered at the school premises.

According to allegations, the thieves stole four sacks of rice stored for the mid-day meal scheme. They also attempted to break the main lock of the school. Upon receiving information, police reached the spot and conducted a preliminary investigation.

The head teacher of the school, Altaf Hussain Laskar, has lodged a written complaint at the Lailapur Police Outpost. Police said that an investigation has been initiated based on the complaint and efforts are underway to identify those involved.

The incident has raised concerns among locals, particularly as it involves a place of education. Many believe that the rising number of substance abuse cases in the area may be contributing to such crimes. Members of the community have urged authorities to take strict action against drug-related activities to prevent further incidents.

Authorities have assured that necessary steps will be taken as the investigation progresses.
