Udharbond School Denies Negligence, Claims CCTV Captured Immediate First Aid
A day after a Class III student was injured at Saint Mary’s School in Dayapur, the school management has denied allegations of negligence and submitted a complaint to Udharbond Police Station against the student’s father and another individual, alleging intimidation, abusive behaviour and threats against teachers.
The development comes after the family of the injured student, Ridwan Barbhuiya, lodged an FIR alleging that the child suffered a facial injury during school hours and was not provided with timely medical assistance.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, Saint Mary’s School described the allegations as “incorrect” and claimed that the student was attended to immediately after the incident. According to the school, first aid was administered without delay, the child was made to sit comfortably and his condition was monitored. The school further stated that the child’s mother was informed about the incident by the class teacher.
The school said the incident occurred shortly after the sixth period, during a brief interval when one teacher had left the classroom and the next teacher had not yet arrived.
Addressing the media, Uttam Kumar Singh, who identified himself as a member of the School Management Committee (SMC), expressed regret over the student’s injury but denied allegations of negligence. He claimed that CCTV footage available with the school shows teachers attending to the child immediately after the incident and providing first aid. He described the allegations levelled against the school as baseless.
Meanwhile, a complaint signed by 20 members of the school’s staff has been submitted to Udharbond Police Station. In the complaint, a teacher named Eva alleged that the student’s father, Roohul Amin Barbhuiya, along with another unidentified individual, entered the staff room on June 3 and behaved aggressively towards teachers.
The complaint alleges that abusive language was used against staff members, including female teachers, and that threats were made against school personnel and property. The complainants further alleged that derogatory remarks were made against members of tribal communities.
According to the school, several teachers felt threatened by the incident, which allegedly disrupted the normal functioning of the institution. The school claimed that attempts by the Principal and School Secretary to calm the situation were unsuccessful.
The student’s family claimed that the child was not provided with adequate care following the injury although the CCTV footage tells a different story. Both complaints are now before the police.
