Silchar TMC Office Locked After Sushmita Dev Quits Party

The resignation of Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has triggered significant political developments in Cachar district, with the party’s district office in Silchar being locked shortly after her departure.

According to sources, several TMC leaders and workers in Cachar have also left the party following Dev’s resignation. The district office on Park Road was subsequently closed, and party banners and posters were removed from the premises.

The office was located in a building owned by Sushmita Dev. Following her exit from the party, the premises were reportedly withdrawn from use as the district TMC office, leading to its closure.

Sources further claimed that Dev and a large number of former TMC leaders and workers from the district may formally join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) within the next few days. However, neither Dev nor the BJP has officially confirmed any such move.

The developments have fuelled speculation about the future of the TMC in Barak Valley, where Dev has been one of the party’s most prominent faces. The claims regarding a possible mass switch to the BJP could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report.

However, shortly after Sushmita Dev’s resignation from the Trinamool Congress, Cachar district TMC president Rajesh Deb, announced that he and some other party leaders and workers from the district would also leave the party and join the BJP in the coming days.
