Silchar Love Jihad! Man Held After Woman Alleges Deception, Blackmail And Uploading Of Private Videos On Social Media

A young man from Sonabarighat in Silchar has been detained after a woman from Guwahati alleged that he deceived her by concealing his identity, recorded her in compromising situations without her consent and subsequently blackmailed her. The accused, identified as Andhan Hussain Majumdar, was apprehended at Rangirkhari Point in Silchar by members of Bajrang Dal and handed over to Rangirkhari Police Station.

Addressing the media, the victim said she works with the railways in Guwahati and came to Silchar specifically to seek help after the accused began blackmailing her. She said the accused had initially contacted her through Instagram and later travelled to Guwahati to meet her. She alleged that during one such meeting, she was unconscious when the accused recorded videos of her without her consent. When she subsequently discovered his true identity and ended the relationship, the accused allegedly uploaded the private videos on Facebook and Instagram and threatened further consequences if she did not agree to marry him or continue a physical relationship with him.

According to the victim, she was unaware of the accused’s actual identity when the relationship began, as he had presented himself otherwise. Upon learning the truth, she immediately ended all contact, following which the blackmailing began. Left with no recourse, she travelled from Guwahati to Silchar and approached Bajrang Dal for assistance. She also alleged that the accused is involved in drug dealing and that his wife was also reportedly involved in the incident.

Members of Bajrang Dal said the victim approached them after the accused began blackmailing her. They said when they reached Rangirkhari Point to apprehend the accused, he allegedly attempted to force the victim into a car. Bajrang Dal members intervened and detained him before handing him over to Rangirkhari Police Station. Bajrang Dal also alleged that what they described as “love jihad” cases have been increasing across Silchar, Karimganj, Badarpur and Guwahati and demanded that the government enact a strict law against such activities. They warned that if their demand is not met, they will stage a large-scale protest.

Cachar Police have taken the accused into custody and questioning is currently underway. The accused is a resident of Sonabarighat in Silchar. The matter is under investigation.
