No Food, No Toilets, No Proper Water! Parents Allege Mismanagement by Headmaster

Parents and local residents of Lailapur Forest Village LP School, located along the Assam-Mizoram border in Cachar district, have alleged that around 150 students have been deprived of regular midday meals for nearly two months.

The parents have raised serious allegations against head teacher Fayzur Rahman, including irregularities in the distribution of midday meal provisions, poor school management and alleged misbehaviour with parents who questioned the arrangements.

According to a mother, the school has not been providing regular midday meals for around two months. She alleged that food was served only once recently, on Friday, and that students were given khichuri.

She further alleged that the school does not have proper water supply or adequate toilet and sanitation facilities for students. According to her, children sometimes have to return home to use the toilet. She also alleged that students are made to fetch water for the school.

The mother claimed that when parents raise questions about the midday meal, the head teacher becomes angry and allegedly threatens them with police action. She also alleged that he has used derogatory terms while speaking to parents.

She further alleged that the head teacher had earlier provided packets of Britannia biscuits and treated them as the government-provided midday meal, while rice and lentils were served only occasionally. She claimed that eggs were not provided to students.

Another local resident alleged that whenever food is served, its quality is poor and some students are unable to eat it. He also alleged that the head teacher allows students to leave the school according to his own decision and that regular classes are not conducted as expected.

The parents have also alleged that a water pump belonging to the school has been taken to the head teacher’s residence. The head teacher’s response to the allegations was not available at the time of publication.

The parents and local residents have urged the Cachar district administration and the Education Department to conduct an impartial inquiry into the allegations. They have also sought immediate steps to restore regular midday meals, improve drinking water and sanitation facilities, and ensure proper teaching and attendance at the school.

They have demanded appropriate action if the allegations are found to be true.
