
Assam Assembly Polls: Turnout Surges to 84.42% by 5 PM; Sribhumi Leads Barak Valley
Polling in Assam witnessed a strong finish on Thursday (April 9), with the Election Commission of India reporting an overall voter turnout of 84.42% as of 5:00 PM, indicating a significant rise in participation during the final hours of voting.
Cachar: The district recorded an overall turnout of 82.19%. Katigorah (116) led with 86.37%, followed by Borkhola (117) at 83.96% and Lakhipur (114) at 83.70%. Udharbond (115) stood at 81.69%, Sonai (119) at 80.92%, Silchar (118) at 79.97%, while Dholai (120) recorded the lowest in the district at 78.55%.
Sribhumi: Emerging as the top performer in Barak Valley, the district recorded an overall turnout of 83.35%. Karimganj North (123) saw 84.57%, closely followed by Ram Krishna Nagar (126) at 84.52%. Patharkandi (125) recorded 83.39%, while Karimganj South (124) stood at 81.33%.
Hailakandi: The district registered a comparatively lower turnout of 78.90%. Algapur-Katlicherra (122) recorded 79.21%, while Hailakandi (121) stood at 78.51%.
Across Barak Valley, Sribhumi maintained its lead in voter turnout, followed by Cachar, while Hailakandi recorded the lowest participation among the three districts. Polling largely remained peaceful, although earlier reports of minor disturbances in some constituencies are yet to be officially confirmed.
