Boats and Ballots: Polling Staff Show Dedication Despite Difficult Terrains
The first phase of the Panchayat elections in Assam is scheduled for tomorrow, and polling agents, presiding officers, and police personnel have already begun their journey or reached their assigned locations. While many polling teams have access to locations that are easy to reach by road, others have been assigned to remote and challenging areas.
In one such case, polling officials and security personnel in Cachar district’s Lakhipur subdivision were seen crossing the Barak River by boat to reach polling stations located near the Assam-Manipur border. With ballot boxes and other necessary materials in hand, they are heading through the river route to fulfil their election duties.
These efforts by polling and security personnel deserve appreciation. Despite the challenges, they are committed to carrying out their responsibilities to ensure that people in every corner of the region get the opportunity to vote. Their dedication reflects the true spirit of democracy.
According to District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, a total of 1,706 polling stations have been set up across the Cachar district. Around 8,000 polling staff and more than 4,000 police personnel will be on duty to ensure the voting process is smooth and peaceful. He clearly stated that any act of violence will not be tolerated, and the administration is focused on maintaining law and order throughout the election.
