Cachar Gang Rape: Three Arrested After Two Minor Girls Allege Sexual Assault

Three men have been arrested after two minor girls alleged that they were abducted and gang raped in Assam’s Cachar district, police said on Thursday (August 6). The accused have been identified as Amjad Hossain, Rinku Das and Saddam Hossain. They are currently in police remand as the investigation continues.

Addressing the media, Cachar Additional Superintendent of Police Rajat Kumar Pal said that Dholai Police Station, through the Lailapur Police Outpost, received information about the incident on the night of Monday (August 3). He said the two minor girls themselves informed the police about what had happened to them.

According to ASP Pal, police immediately launched an investigation after receiving the information. During the course of the investigation, officers identified the three accused and arrested them. He said the accused were later produced before a court, which granted police remand to facilitate further investigation.

Police said the two minor girls are safe and have been sent for medical examination as part of the investigation. Further legal and forensic procedures are being carried out, and investigators are continuing to gather evidence.

Earliest reports suggest that the girls had been abducted from Kolasib district in neighbouring Mizoram before being taken to Cachar, where they were allegedly sexually assaulted. However, this aspect of the case has not yet been officially confirmed by the police.

When contacted by Barak Bulletin, the Superintendent of Police of Kolasib said he was unable to confirm whether the girls were from Kolasib district. He added that he would verify the matter.

The case has drawn widespread attention in Cachar due to the serious nature of the allegations. Police have assured that the investigation is progressing and that all aspects of the case are being examined.
