CM Sarma’s Bikash Jatra Brings Inauguration of Silchar Cancer Hospital; Schemes worth Rs 1208 crore announced

Silchar witnessed a festive atmosphere today as the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, arrived in the town via helicopter to kickstart his “Bikash Jatra” or Progress Rally. He inaugurated the much-awaited Cancer Hospital at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, along with the Silchar Town Water Supply Project aimed at providing drinkable water to the people of Silchar.

Welcomed with garlands and enthusiasm, CM Sarma, alongside Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy, MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, and Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, inaugurated the Silchar Cancer Centre. During the event, CM Sarma highlighted the significance of this development, especially for cancer patients in Cachar and the entire Barak Valley.

He disclosed that a whopping ₹265 crore have been invested in the Cachar Cancer Care Hospital, a joint project between the State Government and Tata Trust. Describing the hospital as beautiful, he dedicated it to the cancer patients of the region. Additionally, he announced the commencement of construction for the Karimganj Medical College and Hospital starting from today.

Later in the day, CM Sarma visited Lakhipur, where several development projects were set to begin. He emphasized that the Progress Rally marked a day of celebration for Assam and the Barak Valley, showcasing various significant developments initiated by the state government.

CM Sarma proudly declared that never before had such large-scale projects been undertaken in a single day in the region. He also shared exciting news about an upcoming Semiconductor Industry by TATA in Jagiroad, expected to generate jobs for approximately 30,000 individuals, a significant achievement for Assam.

Addressing the flyover project in Silchar, CM Sarma revealed that while plans were ready, substantial land acquisition was necessary to proceed. He emphasized the crucial role of people’s support in making the project a reality, asserting that the ball was in the court of the people of Silchar.

Today, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled a total of 73 schemes. Among them were 2 AMRUT schemes and 1 Silchar Cancer Care Hospital, with a combined expenditure of ₹477.78 crore. Additionally, a Bhumi Pujan ceremony was conducted in Karimganj for the Karimganj Medical College, along with 70 other schemes totaling ₹730.24 crores. In total, approximately ₹1208 crores have been spent on these schemes.

In addition to various activities, CM Sarma took time to listen to the grievances of a woman whose land had been occupied by land mafias for two years. He instructed her to meet with the SP and directed the SP to investigate the matter diligently.
