CRPF Jawan commits suicide inside Doyapore Camp, “Under Debt from Gambling Addiction” says Udharbond Police
A 38-year-old Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan had committed suicide inside the Doyapore Camp in Udharbond. This morning fellow jawans of the force found his hanging body in the storeroom. Upon discovering this, the senior officials of the camp were called in, who rushed the body to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Unfortunately, his life couldn’t be saved. Police sources told Barak Bulletin, that he was under crushing debt, which ultimately cost him his life.
38-year-old Narendra Kumar, hailing from Rajasthan, took his life in the early hours of this morning. The jawan reportedly died by hanging himself from the roof of the camp’s storeroom. Narendra, who was transferred to the Doyapore Camp just a few months ago, was discovered lifeless by his fellow jawans, who immediately alerted the senior officers. Upon arrival, the officers swiftly rushed him to the nearest hospital, but unfortunately, he was declared deceased upon arrival.
The overwhelming burden of the debt ultimately led him to take such a drastic step. His suicide note recovered from the scene, disclosed that he had accumulated a staggering debt exceeding 30 lakh rupees due to his gambling addiction.
“We have launched an investigation into the matter. We have found a sucide note from his person where he mentioned he had a gambling addiction. He owed money to many people, which he was unable to pay. That is why he decided to end his life. The body has been sent for a postmortem examination to the medical college”, ASI of Udharbond Police told Barak Bulletin
This unfortunate incident sheds light on the profound challenges confronting individuals, even those in uniform, grappling with addiction and financial burdens. An uneasy situation and tension mount at the camp as one of their own killed himself.
