Dholai: Man Held by locals for Allegedly Raping Minor

A six year old girl has allegedly been raped in the Panibhara Pururathol Punji area of Dholai in Cachar district. The accused, identified as Pradeep Kalindi, was apprehended by local residents and community members and handed over to Dholai Police Station.

According to the complaint, the child was left alone at home while her mother had gone to a nearby forest to collect firewood. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused allegedly entered the house and raped the girl before fleeing, leaving the child in a bloodied condition.

When the mother returned and found her daughter injured, she raised an alarm. The child was admitted to hospital in a serious condition and the mother filed a complaint at Dholai Police Station.

Locals said the accused initially fled and hid in a nearby forest, making it difficult for police to locate him. He was eventually found in the Rukni jungle, where he was reportedly armed with a knife. Community members, including the secretary of the BDP and representatives of Bajrang Dal and the Panibhara committees, were present when he was apprehended. He was caught and handed over to Police.

Speaking to the media, a local resident said the victim belongs to a poor family from Panibhara that depends on government support for their livelihood. He demanded strict action against the accused and called for the death penalty. The family and local organisations have echoed the same demand.
