Fact Check: SP Sribhumi Denies Reports of High Alert in Border Areas, District

Amid the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, citizens are advised to exercise caution when consuming or sharing news, especially on social media. It is important to verify information before sharing them, as unverified news can lead to unnecessary panic.

Recently, a social media post has been circulating, claiming that the Sribhumi region has been placed on high alert following unrest in Bangladesh. The post further alleged that due to Sribhumi’s strategic location along the Bangladesh border, this alert had been issued.

However, these claims are false. No such high alert has been issued in Sribhumi or any other part of the district. It is adviced to the people of Barak Valley to refrain from spreading misinformation that could trigger panic among the public.

Speaking to Barak Bulletin, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sribhumi, Partha Protim Das, stated, “No such high alert has been issued in Sribhumi or the border areas in connection with the recent developments between India and Pakistan.”

Although it should be noted that yesterday, a suspected unidentified drone was discovered along the India-Bangladesh border in Sribhumi, raising security concerns. SP Das termed the drone as suspicious, and an investigation has been initiated to determine its origin and purpose. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of the region.

The situation between India and Pakistan has become tense following the Pahalgam attack, where 26 tourists lost their lives in an attack by terrorists linked to Pakistan. Later, The Resistance Front (TRF), a local offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack.

In response, India launched a tactical air strike named Operation Sindoor, targeting terror camps located within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). Following this operation, social media saw a surge in misleading posts, many of which were later identified as fake news.

Citizens are advised to avoid sharing any information on social media without confirming its authenticity. In times of heightened tension, spreading unverified news can lead to confusion and fear. Only information from credible and official sources should be trusted and shared.
