Family attacked in Tarapur; 65-year-old woman, 8-year-old kid incur injuries referred to SMCH
Tension prevails in Silchar following the communal clash that occurred yesterday. Earlier today, the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar called for a peace meeting that was attended by people of all communities. Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Rohan Kumar Jha urged members of the respective communities to work together and restore normalcy. He asked everyone to take the responsibility of putting an end to the ongoing chain of unfortunate events as that benefits no one.
However, the fragile calm was shattered this evening when a Muslim family was targeted while returning from the Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The family members were subjected to verbal abuse, and miscreants pelted stones at the vehicle, leaving two members injured. The incident took place near the Netaji Memorial School in Tarapur’s E&D Colony.
According to a member of the targeted family, the assailants chanted “Jai Shree Ram” and directed threats towards the family, specifically targeting their religion. The attackers fled the scene on their Tuk Tuks, leaving behind an atmosphere of fear and insecurity.
Among the injured were 65-year-old Ayesha Sultana and her 8-year-old grandson. They sustained injuries during the attack but managed to escape and promptly reported the incident to the police. In response to the incident, Cachar SP Numal Mahatta, OC Silchar Sadar, and Amit Singh, along with a team of police officials, swiftly arrived at the scene to restore order.
The injured victims were immediately referred to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for treatment. A medical examination revealed that Ayesha Sultana had sustained deep wounds, requiring eight stitches, while her grandson received necessary first aid. Both individuals have been released from the hospital following treatment.
In light of the incident, an FIR has been lodged at the Arunachal Police Patrol Post. The police have launched an investigation into the matter, and local authorities are urging the public to refrain from spreading rumors and unverified information.
