Hailakandi Horror: Bloodbath At Durgabari, Uncle’s Dao Attack on Family Caught on CCTV
A 48-year-old man has allegedly attacked his nephew and sister-in-law with a sharp dao in Hailakandi district, injuring both seriously. The incident took place at around 7:30 am on Saturday (July 4) in the Durgabari area of Ward Number 9 in Hailakandi town. The entire attack was captured on a CCTV camera installed in the area.
The accused has been identified as Ajoy Raut, the younger brother of Sanjay Raut. According to Sanjay, his wife Joba Raut had stepped out to pluck flowers when Ajoy arrived at their home in an allegedly inebriated state and began verbally abusing the family. Sanjay said the family had previously filed a case against his younger brother Ajoy under Section 107 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and approached the police station with that existing case. However, he alleged that police failed to act, citing that they were occupied with other accused persons.
Sanjay further told the media that he then contacted local legislator Milan Das, who was in Guwahati at the time and could only provide him with the number of an ambulance. When Sanjay arrived at his home with the ambulance, he found his son, Sahil Raut and his wife, Joba Raut in a bloodied condition. He also said that despite hearing the screams, the neighbours did not come forward to help the family.
Sanjay’s son has been admitted to the intensive care unit of Green Hills Nursing Home, while his wife is currently undergoing treatment in the general ward of the same facility. The accused, Ajoy Raut fled the spot immediately after the attack and has not been apprehended. Hailakandi Police have launched a search operation to trace him.
The CCTV footage of the incident captures the horrific sequence of the attack. It shows the accused first chasing his elder brother out of the house before turning his attention to his sister-in-law and attacking her with a sharp dao. He then assaults his nephew, and even after both victims collapse to the ground, he continues striking them repeatedly. Moments later, the accused is seen chasing after his brother again as the latter screams for help. During the incident, he can also be heard shouting at his brother, “Can you prove I committed murder?”
Sanjay Raut alleged that police do not act unless money is paid and accused the administration of failing his family at every step. Meanwhile, Hailakandi Police are investigating whether the attack stemmed from a family dispute or another motive. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
