Hailakandi: “Where Was the Doctor?” Father Breaks Down After Child’s Death at Civil Hospital

A child’s death at the Santosh Kumar Roy Civil Hospital in Hailakandi triggered tension on the hospital premises after the family alleged that the child did not receive timely medical attention from a doctor.

According to the family, the child had initially been receiving treatment at a hospital in Ramkrishnanagar but was referred to the Hailakandi civil hospital for further treatment after the child’s condition deteriorated. The child was brought to the hospital at around 6 pm and admitted to the paediatric ward.

The family alleged that no doctor attended to the child in the paediatric ward for several hours after admission. They claimed that nursing staff administered an injection and saline, but a doctor did not arrive despite the family waiting for medical attention.

Visuals from the hospital show the child’s family in distress following the death. The father can be heard questioning hospital staff and alleging that his child was conscious and responsive after receiving an injection but subsequently stopped moving.

According to the father, the family later waited for more than an hour for a doctor to confirm whether the child was still alive. He questioned why a doctor was not available when the child’s condition was reportedly critical and asked what kind of medical system could leave a family waiting for confirmation in such circumstances.

The child’s death led to an emotional confrontation between the family and hospital staff. The father demanded accountability and questioned who was responsible for the alleged delay in treatment.

At present, the exact cause and circumstances of the child’s death have not been officially established. It is also not clear whether the alleged delay in medical attention contributed to the death. A proper medical assessment or official inquiry would be required to determine this.
