Hailakandi’s ADC, Ranadip Dam, his peon and PSO test COVID positive

Breaking news coming in from Hailakandi. The district’s additional deputy commissioner Ranadip Kumar Dam has tested COVID positive.

As per available information, Dam’s peon and Private Security Officer have also been diagnosed infected by the virus.
The officials in the district informed that nine new COVID-19 positive cases in Hailakandi taking the total tally to 374. With this, the virus had penetrated into the deputy commissioner’s office in the district.

Speaking with Barak Bulletin, ADC Dam said that his swab samples were collected under the Assam Targeted Surveillance Programme and he will now stay in isolation. “My driver’s result is still awaiting. Apart from that my PSO and the peon in my office have already tested positive,” said Dam.

Hailakandi DC, Megha Nidhi Dahal added while speaking with the publication, “He is in isolation. We have sanitised the office and will test all who were in contact with him.”

Health authorities in Hailakandi disclosed that Ranadip Kumar Dam, 49, Taposh Deb, 28, Rafijul Ali Barbhuiya, 52, Krishna Mohan Rudrapalli, 49, Jalaluddin Barbhuiya, 20, Rathindra Kr. Roy, 51, Bhumi Dhar Das, 53, Rustom Ali, 28, and Uttam Singha Choudhury, 36, have tested positive on Wednesday.

Among the persons infected, apart from the Additional Deputy Commissioner there were two other employees from DC’s establishment, two security personnel from Kuchila camp, three health personnel from Kalinagar BPHC and one from Rongpur Part 3. The ADC’s peon and PSO have tested positive.

Two have been admitted at SK Roy COVID-19 Civil Hospital, one at home isolation and six at Algapur Model Hospital. All the cases are asymptomatic.

Meanwhile, Fire and Emergency Services have sanitised the DC’s establishment and it will remain closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

The swab results of Deputy Commissioner, Megh Nidhi Dahal and his office staff, driver and PSOs have tested negative.

Two COVID-19 positive patients viz., Mangoli Rani Das, 53, and Foijul Haque Barbhuiya, 65, breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

31 persons are undergoing treatment at SK Roy designated COVID-19 Civil Hospital, 29 at MG Model Hospital, 3 at SMC&H, 23 at Algapur Model Hospital and one at Karimganj Civil Hospital.

Of the 9,684 swab samples taken so far, 7,402 turned out to be negative. Swab results of 1,721 are awaited as per health bulletin released on Tuesday evening.

1,223 persons are under facility quarantine centres while 4,292  persons under home quarantine. 5,452 persons from outside the state have arrived here since May 13.

The district has a total of 18 containment zones.
