Heroin Worth Over Rs. 1.5 Crore Seized in Cachar, Two Nagaon Men Arrested

Cachar Police seized 250 grams of heroin worth more than Rs. 1.5 crore during an anti-drug operation at Kalaincherra and arrested two alleged drug traffickers from Nagaon district.

The operation was carried out near the old MVI Gate on National Highway 6 at Kalaincherra based on specific intelligence inputs. A police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Rajat Kumar Paul, along with the officers in charge of Kalain Police Station and Gumra Police Outpost, conducted the operation after receiving information about a vehicle suspected of transporting heroin from Mizoram.

Acting on the tip-off, the police team laid a trap near the old MVI Gate and intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number AS01 ET-6933. During a thorough search of the vehicle, officers discovered a concealed chamber.

Police recovered 22 soap cases containing heroin from the hidden compartment. The seized contraband weighed a total of 250 grams. According to ASP Rajat Kumar Paul, the estimated market value of the recovered heroin is more than Rs. 1.5 crore.

Two persons, identified as Ashikur Rahman and Moktar Hossain, both residents of Nagaon district, were arrested in connection with the seizure. A case has been registered at Kalain Sadar Police Station, and the accused are being interrogated.

According to preliminary information, the heroin consignment had originated in neighbouring Mizoram and was being transported through Cachar for delivery to destinations outside Assam.

Cachar Police said their campaign against drug trafficking will continue as part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal narcotics trade in the district.
