Heroin Worth Several Lakhs Seized in Cachar, Meghalaya Man Arrested

A large quantity of suspected heroin was seized during a police operation at Digarkhal in Assam’s Cachar district, leading to the arrest of an alleged drug trafficker from Meghalaya, police said.

The operation was carried out by Gumrah Police Station on National Highway 6 near the old MVI Gate at Digarkhal. During the special drive, police intercepted a passenger vehicle bearing registration number ML-05-AA-6770 and recovered seven soap cases containing suspected heroin.

According to police, the contraband was allegedly being transported from an undisclosed location in Cachar through National Highway 6 to another state. Acting on specific intelligence, officers intercepted the vehicle and took the suspect into custody before the consignment could be moved further.

The arrested person has been identified as Ford Pala, a resident of Meghalaya.

Police said the suspected heroin was recovered during a search of the vehicle. The seized contraband is estimated to have a market value of several lakh rupees.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to determine the source of the drugs and identify others who may be involved in the trafficking network.
